    Garnellen, our house vineyard

Diversity and the attempt to break the monoculture

My house vineyard has 1,2 acres and is located at 500 m above sea level. The clay soil of volcanic porphyry and calcareous dolomite is planted with 10 - 25 year old Sauvignon Blanc vines. Here, the ideal growth-harmony is almost reached.
In some years, it is already possible to reach only with plant strengtheners to a harmonious ripeness.

Only 3,000 m² I inherited from my mother, the rest of the area was slowly acquired over the last 15 years. Today it is the basis of the vineyard.

Barleith, the winery with the best view

This vineyard has always been a family-owned; it spoils the vines with excessive heat. The 0, 7-hectare vineyards are located at 300 m above sea level, on a slightly inclined to the southeast terrace overlooking the Lake Kaltern. In clayey-chalky gravel soil are 20-year-old Cabernet Sauvignon

The exposed position usually allows for a late harvest. The combination of perfect tannins-ripeness with absolute grape health is my goal.

Feld, the place where the river flowed

It is in this small vineyard that our Merlot grows, in the "Feld" area.
We are slightly lower and closer to Lake Caldaro, in the place where in ancient times (geological past) the Adige river flowed before natural events diverted it elsewhere. Here the roots of Merlots find their way into a soil rich in pebbles that the river deposited during its ancient floods.
An almost "extreme" land but which over the years we have enlivened and today gives us beautiful fruits.
