wine with panoramic views

Bärleitn is our wine which until the 2018 vintage was called Barleith.
But apart from the name nothing has changed, neither in the vineyard nor in the cellar. The grapes continue to come from the Barleith vineyard, a very well-known cru in the Caldaro area. Our vineyard is approx is about 1 hectare and is located 300 m above sea level near Lake Caldaro, on a slightly inclined terrace oriented towards the southeast. The view is beautiful and the microclimate benefits from the proximity of the lake. The soil is very rich in limestone gravel and completed with clay and sand. Here my vines of over 25 years of Cabernet Sauvignon grow as a part of the nature.
The exposed and ventilated position often allows to delay the harvest. My goal is to obtain a great maturity of the tannins while keeping the grapes perfectly healthy. Usually we harvest in October.

Fermentation occurs spontaneously in clay amphorae. Here it remains for 7 months in contact with the skins and for another 14 months on the noble lees. Only before bottling is a slight sulfurization carried out to avoid oxidation. It remains in the bottle for at least 2 years before being made available. The years become 3 for a limited number of magnums that I bottle only for passion.
Each vintage enriches the Barleith of different shades. The color is ruby in youth evolving to garnet with aging. The nose has intense aromas of undergrowth fruits such as blueberries, ripe red fruits, aromatic herbs, spices like pepper (which oscillates between black and green depending on the vintage and the age of the bottle) , licorice, star anise, olive paste, rhubarb and mineral and smoky notes. In the mouth there is a lot of matter and energy, the sip is wide, rich, but well balanced by flavor and freshness, by well-smoothed tannins that time makes it silky, and by a long, persistent finish, of great cleanliness and pleasantness.
    Herzlich Willkommen am Tröpfltalhof.
